Pentago was invented in Sweden during an exceptionally dull accounting meeting, by accountant analyst specialist Tomas Floden. He later contacted a few friends of his that got so excited about the product that they formed a company and launched Pentago on the Swedish market in 2004. In 2005, Mindtwister USA founder Mathias Ringstrom was at home in Stockholm and got a Pentago game for Christmas from his mother.
Mathias is a very logically minded individual that appreciates a game like Pentago. At first sight, he thought his mother had bought him a kid's game, it appeared so simple. His mother promptly challenged him to a few games. After losing several games in a row, Mathias quickly realized that this was much more that just a child's game. He learned some strategy over the two week holiday in Sweden and then brought the game back to Tony Mag, another Swedish California transplant, who is also a logic game aficionado. Tony Mag ended up losing many games to Mathias at first. Because they only had one game between them, Tony Mag went to work in the garage and made his own. Both Swedes were so impressed with the simple genius of Pentago that they decided to contact the Swedish company and work out a license arrangement for marketing, manufacturing and sales in North America. Thus Mindtwister USA was born. Between Tony and Mathias, they have more than 30 years combined experience in one of the toughest youth industries, the Action Sports market. Both are internationally recognized professional skateboarders and both have been involved with building businesses in that market since 1985. They pride themselves on extensive experience in the action sports market, along with a great sense of computer skills, product design, advertising and customer service. Using years of design and business building experience from the Action Sports industry, the two Swedes set to work on creating the USA version of Pentago, which required plenty of re-design work on packaging, the product and all the text. It was also decided that a much more comprehensive play and strategy guide was needed. Tony Mag set out to write and design the very comprehensive strategy guide that will turn a novice Pentago player into an accomplished player, once they've played the various strategies outlined in the guide. The two took what they had built and embarked on the New York Toy Fair, without knowing anyone in the business, setting up a small booth. During the show, Pentago caught the attention of game buyers, who recognized it as a very unique and versatile game that is fun for all ages and skill levels. Pentago created so much of a stir at the show that it caught the attention of legendary toy rep Frank Martin, who came over to see what all the hoopla was about. Frank was thoroughly impressed and offered to help the two game company novices setup a national network of sales reps. Besides all the attention from enthusiastic game buyers at the show, this was the break that was needed. Conveniently, Frank Martin operates out of Los Angeles and Mindtwister USA is located in San Diego. Just days after the show was over, the two Swedes got together with Frank Martin to solidify the deal. Over the next few months, Frank set up a national network of reps and Mindtwister USA began shipping the Pentago game to eager game/toy/specialty stores and many retailers saw Pentago hit number one.
